Simple answer: I am blind. Yes, can you believe it? I was born with progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) and my vision was very limited. Because I could get around very well no one noticed my handicap and I was trained for racing. When I started bumping onto other dogs my trainer figured that I could not see very well so I was released to the GPA. Mom and dad fostered my Thanksgiving of 2006 and they did some tests at home to find out that I was completely blind. To confirm their testing they took me to the veterinarian and indeed I could not see a dog in front me. Not to worry though… I was able to build a cognitive map of the house and yard and in a few days I was able to walk around without bumping onto anything. I was also able to run in the yard knowing where I was going. We dogs don’t get hung up on a little problem like this; we adapt very quickly and move on with our lives.
